Fall Colors Hiking / Camping opportunity near Lutsen, MN

One of the benefits of running the Moose Mountain Marathon in 2005 was that we experienced running on a very beautiful section of the Superior Hiking Trail.  Bonnie and I went back to that location a few weeks later, to try to view the fall colors at their peak, and we saw the most beautiful fall scenery that I have ever seen.  This fall we will be going back for the 4th consecutive year.  We are inviting any interested River Runners to join us.

You will have the chance to hike up places like Carlton Peak, Britton Peak, Leveaux Mountain, and Oberg Mountain, which are all near Lutsen.  We will also be hiking along the Temperance River and the Cascade River.  Last year we included a hike to the highest point in Minnesota, Eagle Mountain, which is near Grand Marais, and we may do that again this year.

You will also have the option to stop at places like Gooseberry Falls, Tettegouche State Park and Palisade Head on your drive up the North Shore.

We cannot guarantee that we will hit the peak of the fall colors, but we can guarantee you will get in some good hikes and see some beautiful views.
You can view some pictures
here or at the bottom of the page.  These pictures were taken over the last three years.

Everyone will have a choice of what type of lodging they want (camping / motels) because they will be making their own lodging reservations.
We will be camping at either the Temperance River State Park or Cascade River State Park.  One reason we are posting this notice so early is because those campgrounds start taking reservations in June for the end of September.

We hope to get a great group of River Runners to have some fun hiking, camping, and enjoying nature!  -- Ron Stock
