1959 - 1960 Edgerton Flying Dutchmen Boys Basketball Champs:

The Edgerton players carried 23-year-old coach Rich Olson from the Williams Arena floor in 1960 after the tiny Minnesota town won the one-class state basketball title.  Edgerton beat three big-city schools en route to the title in an era when the boys' basketball tournament was the king.

The 1959 -1960 basketball season started like any other, except the Flying Dutchmen had a new coach, Rich Olson. This was Rich's first year as a teacher and coach. The team clinched the Tri-County Conference title in February with their 15th consecutive win. Enthusiasm, never lacking in Edgerton, mounted as they went on to beat Worthington for the District 8 championship, and Mountain Lake for the Region 2 title. At this point Edgerton was not only the smallest town represented in the tournament, but the only undefeated team in the state.

In Williams Arena they defeated Chisholm in the first round 65 to 54, Richfield in the semi-finals 63 to 60, and Austin 72 to 61 for the Minnesota State Championship. The second game was considered by many as the championship game. Richfield was expected to win, but Edgerton was the Cinderella team of the championship that year and pulled off the victory.
