SCRR Memorial Award

In 1995 the SCRR created the Carey Burke Award which was given to a club member who
represented Carey’s enthusiasm for running and our club. Carey’s positive attitude lasted long
after leukemia took him away in 1993. This award has been given to club members who have
shared in this same spirit and enjoyment of distance running for 24 years.

In 2019 the name has been changed to the SCRR Memorial Award to continue to honor Carey as
well as other past club members who shared in his spirit and love for the club. These past
members include: Hank Coppock, Thorpe Running, Dale Carlson, Leon Meyer, Steve and
Cheryl Tenvoorde, Keith Nelson, Gerry Stock, Carol Wintheiser, Jeannine Sjogren, Dave
Carlson, and John Seiler.
